The partnership project between For-Eritrea e.V. and the Orotta National Referral Hospital Asmara (ONRH) aims to reduce the rates of maternal and child mortality in Eritrea.
Problem: Eritrea faces challenges regarding limited healthcare centers and doctors who are specialized in women’s health. There is no available prenatal care and most children are delivered at home. In most hospitals, Cardiotocography (CTG) machines used to monitor delivery, medications, and delivery standards as well as further education opportunities for doctors is lacking.
Main Activities: Within the project, both partners will develop and implement diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as well as delivery standards. Additionally, construction measures on hospital infrastructure are performed in order to improve access to sanitary facilities.
Short-Term Effects: The implementation of new diagnostics, therapy methods, and standards in combination with construction measures will improve the capacity of patient care within the ONRH in the area of Maternal-and-Child Health.
Long-Term Effects: The capacity strengthening of the ONRH will decrease the rates of maternal and child mortality.
