LSHTM webinar: Meningitis control in African countries

Location
Online
Date
06/22/2021

The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) webinar "Deadly epidemics 'brewed in an African pot': from genomic science to saving lives" is dedicated to how findings from basic microbiology or genomics research can be used to combat bacterial diseases. It will take place on Tuesday June 22nd, 2021, from 17.30-18.30 (GMT).

The lecturer is Professor Martin Antonio (LSHTM), Co-Director of LSHTM and Professor of Global Health and Molecular Microbiology. Countries in the so-called African meningitis belt are regularly affected by bacterial meningitis epidemics. In his webinar, Prof. Antonio will discuss approaches to control this disease. He will show how basic research involving the population leads to new insights in the fight against meningitis epidemics. The partnership with global, regional and national health organisations also plays a central role.

The webinar is part of the "Inaugural Lectures" event series, in which new LSHTM professors present findings from their previous research. Participation is free of charge, registration via the LSHTM website.
