The hospital partnership between the Evangelical Lukas Foundation Altenburg and the Sheptytsky Hospital aims to strengthen the health services offered to mentally ill people at the Sheptytsky Hospital in Lviv, Ukraine.
Background
The Ukrainian health system suffers from inefficiency, lack of financial resources and corrupt structures. Health workers receive low salaries and patients pay for their own medical treatment. Due to the recent visa-free regime in the European Union, there is a risk of a brain drain of medical and nursing professionals. In addition, there is an acute need for mental health care for internally displaced persons and traumatised soldiers in Ukraine.
Activities
Impact
Through the ergo- and psychotherapeutic competence expansion of the nursing staff at the Sheptytsky Hospital, bedridden, traumatised and demented persons are better cared for at the hospital. The trained professionals act as multipliers for other institutions.
