Avoiding and treating hospital-acquired infections is the goal of the partnership between Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Université Evangélique du Cameroun.

Problem: Post-operative and hospital-acquired infections (nosocomial infections) pose a major health risk in middle and low-income countries. One analysis indicates that in the Cameroonian hospital there is a lack of capacities to handle post-operative, hospital-acquired and musculoskeletal infections.

Main activities: Support for the partner is to enhance the quality of prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of post-operative, hospital-acquired and musculoskeletal infections. To this end, workshops are to be held at the hospital in Mbouo for medical staff and the subject is to be included in the university curriculum.

Short-term results: The capacities of medical staff in the fields of post-operative, hospital-acquired and musculoskeletal infections at the hospital in Mbouo are to be developed by means of workshops and seminars.

Long-term results: The number of patients suffering hospital-acquired infections is to be radically reduced.
