The continuation of the hospital partnership between the University Medical Center Freiburg, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research and the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia Health Department aims to improve the care provided to patients with tuberculosis and diabetes in Livingstonia, Malawi.

Background:
Malawi faces a dual burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases and the prevalence of tuberculosis and diabetes is steadily increasing. Effective disease control requires medical staff to be given training and digital health tools to be integrated. Community mobilisation for case detection and treatment is crucial in developing these tools.

Activities:
- Conducting a round table discussion on the evaluation of tuberculosis and diabetes integration in
order to design an algorithm for Embangweni Hospital
- Providing training to healthcare workers in several hospitals on the broader implementation of the
algorithm for the screening of diseases
- Developing a matrix for digital tools that may be required

Impact:
The project is intended to help strengthen early detection and diagnostic services for tuberculosis and diabetes at community and hospital level. This aims to drive forward tuberculosis care in Livingstonia, Malawi, in the long term while simultaneously building capacity for the use of digital tools.
