According to the United Nations (UN), approximately 200 million girls and women worldwide are affected by genital mutilation. The physical and psychological consequences are fatal for those affected and lead to a high level of suffering. The Leipzig-based association SAIDA International e.V. focuses with the conference “Genitalverstümmelung – Wirksame Prävention und kompetente Versorgung” on raising awareness and providing information on concrete offers to help. The online conference will take place on May 28th, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The speakers come from the subject areas of migration, medicine and social pedagogy.

On May 27th, the evening before the conference, SAIDA International e. V. invites interested parties to watch the short film "Cutting the Womanhood" from 6 to 7 p.m. and to discuss with Bintou Bojang, activist and founder of Crocodile Project e.V. afterwards. The event is aimed at medical and socio-educational professionals as well as other interested persons. Information about the program and the registration can be found on the website of SAIDA International e.V.

The Hospital Partnerships funding programme supports a partnership between the association SAIDA International e.V. and three Burkina Faso project partners: Direction Régionale de la Santé du Centre-Est, the association AWA, and the non-governmental organization Voix de Femmes in Burkina Faso. The hospital partners jointly provide training and education in order to perform reconstructive surgical techniques on the clitoris and labia of genitally mutilated women in Burkina Faso and thus improve the health situation of those affected in the long term.
